What Is Panchang? Five Elements and Daily Timings Explained

Panchang is a traditional Hindu almanac built from five elements: Tithi, Vara, Nakshatra, Yoga and Karana. Because calculations depend on sunrise, longitude and latitude, a Panchang for one city should not be copied as the exact timing for another.

The five parts of Panchang

  1. Tithi: a lunar day calculated from the angular distance between Sun and Moon.
  2. Vara: the weekday, from Sunday through Saturday.
  3. Nakshatra: the lunar mansion occupied by the Moon.
  4. Yoga: one of 27 combinations calculated from solar and lunar longitudes.
  5. Karana: half of a Tithi, used in traditional timing classifications.

Frequently searched daily periods

  • Brahma Muhurta: a pre-sunrise period traditionally used for study, prayer or quiet routine.
  • Abhijit Muhurta: a midday interval listed by many Panchangs, with exceptions and local variation.
  • Rahu Kaal: a weekday-based period that some traditions avoid for beginning selected activities.

How to read a daily Panchang

  1. Select the correct city and date.
  2. Check local sunrise and sunset.
  3. Read when the Tithi and Nakshatra end; they may change during the day.
  4. Check the specific festival or Muhurta rule rather than judging from one element.
  5. Use practical requirements, availability and safety alongside tradition.

What Panchang does not guarantee

A listed period does not guarantee business, marriage, medical or financial results. For weddings and specialised rituals, family traditions and calculation methods can differ. Use a qualified local source when exact ritual timing matters.

Open the Destiny Grid daily Panchang and confirm that your city is correct before using any time.
